Souvenir Project
Souvenir began in 2011 as a daily practice of witnessing and declaring meaning after a sudden collapse of it. Each day, at least one photograph was made and placed into a notebook as a record of whatever significance could be located in that moment.
Over time, the project evolved into an inquiry into the nature of representation, asking not only what is seen, but what it means to sponsor a perception, to declare it meaningful, and to accept responsibility for that declaration.
“This event that I’ve observed is or was. I take it upon myself to represent this observation, fully aware that in doing so I can only fail to represent the original event and that this failure does not invalidate that representation.”
