This card was pulled as a kind of next “guide post” in the sandstorm, looking for a location marker or direction. This pull was the first time the card has ever emerged from my deck since it was entered into it. Oddly, the visual for the design was created alongside some of the oldest cards, during the “vision cards” class. This one was in response to the prompt “spirituality.” It captured an internal framework I was holding which came from completing the Mari Mandala assessment. In that process, one of the identifying card sets depicts one’s relationship with the divine, and the choice of circle type indicates what type of relationship the person is experiencing. When I completed the assessment (several years before I began making cards), it revealed that my orientation toward the divine was primarily as a masculine and somewhat closed off force outside myself. At the time that assessment would have been correct, but it felt threatening to confront that reality.

When I made the initial sketch for this card (several years later), it was with that experience in mind, having gone through a significant transformation in that relationship since. I did not know where exactly I might fall on that assessment at the time of the card’s making. Instead, it was meant to represent the spectrum of the relationship as a whole, a kind of representation of the self in relationship to the divine.

I completed the foiled version of the card earlier this year and it officially entered the deck at that point. It has, as I stated, not emerged during a pull since that point. For it to arrive now in this context feels intensely significant and equally puzzling.

This card has a “cousin” as well, a second version I made when I revisited the prompt. That card hasn’t been uploaded yet but it is mentioned here as the desert card with the circle.

Conclusions forgone for the time being. I think I will take my questions to my journal process however…
